phrz

free glitch vst alternative

looking for a free glitch or stutter vst? phrz is not a plugin — it runs in your browser, with nothing to install. drop in sounds, press new phrase, and it chops them into glitchy, stuttering phrases, kept in key.

free to start · no install, no account · it opens with starter sounds already loaded

an effect, or a phrase?

a glitch vst is an effect. you put it on a track in your daw, and it stutters, repeats and breaks up what is already playing.

phrz works the other way round. you bring the sounds and press new phrase: phrz cuts them into pieces, places the pieces at random, and adds stutter, glitch, reverse and delay on top.

so it does not process a track in place. it makes new glitchy material you can export as wav and drop into your session.

where the glitch comes from

in core, new phrase places stutter, glitch, reverse and delay at random. with pro, you place them yourself.

tiny chops move size to the left and phrz cuts finer and finer pieces.

random placement the pieces land where you would not have put them, so the rhythm breaks up.

stutter a short bit of the sound repeats in rhythm.

glitch the sound is rebuilt from scattered crumbs, so it sounds broken.

reverse and delay pieces play backwards, or echo.

questions

is phrz a vst plugin? not today. phrz runs in your browser. a plugin version for daws (vst3 / clap) is in the works.

is it free? yes. phrz's core is free and runs in your browser — nothing to install, no account.

can it glitch a track i already made? not the way an effect does. you can drop in a bounced loop and phrz will cut it into a new phrase, but it does not process the track in place.

can i use my own sounds? yes. drop in up to 24 audio files. each one becomes its own layer.

will the glitches be in key? phrz listens to the harmony in each sound and shifts the pieces into one key, so they fit together.

can i take the result into my daw? export the phrase as wav. with pro, export every audible layer as its own stem, all starting together and running the same length.
