kyft · key fit
fit your samples to one key.
drop in sounds from anywhere. kyft finds the key of each one and shifts it to the key you pick, so they sit together. sounds with no clear key, like drums, are left as they are. free, in your browser.

what is kyft?
sounds from different packs, recordings and old loops rarely share a key. kyft reads each one and moves it to the same key, so you can layer them without the pitch fighting.
it grew out of phrz, and uses the same key detection that phrz uses.
how it works
drop in your sounds.
choose files, or drop them on the page. you can add many at once.
each one gets a key.
kyft detects the key of every sound, one by one. if a file name already says the key, it reads it from there.
pick the key to match.
leave it on auto or choose a key. shift by key moves each sound by the distance between its key and the target. shift by notes fits each sound's notes to the scale instead, so a sound can move even when its key name already matches. sounds with no clear key, like drums, start as keep, and any sound can be switched between shift and keep.
compare, then export.
every row shows the waveform before and after. press listen to hear one, then the other. export saves everything in one zip.
how it shifts
kyft repitches, the way a sampler does: pitch and speed move together, by about 6% per semitone. shifts stay between 6 semitones down and 5 up. shifted up 5, a sound plays about 1.33 times as fast; shifted down 6, about 0.71 times as fast, and its length changes the other way. there is no mode that keeps the speed.
shifted sounds come out as 48 khz, 32-bit float wav, with the new key added to the file name. a sound already in the key goes in as its original file, with the key added to the name. sounds you keep go in as they were, under their own names.
your sounds stay with you.
your audio is not uploaded. reading the files, finding the keys, shifting them and making the zip all happen in your browser.
