what is phrz?
phrz takes up to 24 samples, chops them at random and places the chops at random to make a phrase. it keeps them in key.
press new phrase and it cuts and places them again: same sounds, a different phrase, as many times as you like.
finding samples and arranging chops by hand is slow. phrz can load public-domain (cc0) sounds at random, then does the chopping and arranging for you.
sometimes an image or a video gives a sound a world. that is why visuals are part of phrz.
how it works
drop in some sounds, then press play.
phrz cuts them up and turns them into a phrase. press play to hear it.
they do not have to be in the same key. phrz listens to the harmony in each sound and brings the fragments into key with each other.

an image is material too. phrz cuts it up just like your sounds.
every sound you hear picks a new crop, strip or tile of the image and holds it until the next one.
a video keeps playing, and the part you see switches only when you hear a sound.

questions
does it write music for me? no. phrz rearranges and processes the material you give it. what comes out is a phrase or a piece of material to take further, not a finished track.
is it random? yes. chance picks the fragments, the timing and the structure. with pro, you can lock the layers you like and randomize the rest.
do i need my own sounds? no. phrz opens with starter sounds already loaded. use those, replace them, or add your own. you can also switch the draw from toggle to cc0, and phrz loads random public-domain sounds.
do i need to install anything? no. phrz runs in the browser. core needs no account. pro is tied to an account, so buying it means signing in.
can i make something for social media? yes. add an image or video and export the sound and visual together as mp4. phrz includes size presets for reels, tiktok, youtube shorts, x and square posts.
what can i take out of phrz? wav, mp4 and a local .phrz project in core. pro also adds stems, so every audible layer can leave as its own audio file.
